After a well deserved Christmas break, we flawlessly recovered from the busy first semester. Now it was time to kick off the second semester. So what’s better than a weekend in the woods with our MIM class? Nothing! Margaux and Elisabeth booked a beautiful cottage in Malmedy, the Ardennes. Surrounded by trees and a lot of snow, this was a promising recipe for fun.
We took our moonboots, ski jackets and snow chains with us and left packed and ready Friday evening after class. Because the snow was falling heavily, it was a thrilling ride. But we all arrived unscathed at the destination. Check! Our first mission was accomplished.
After we unpacked our bags and tuck into a pasta, we prepared our jenever trip (aka “Dutch gin trip”). We planned a scenic route with various hilarious tasks. However during the preparation, we sank almost up to our knees into the soft wet snow. Check! Our second mission failed, but we came up with another plan: a smaller tour (100m) down the road, and the same (100m) tour back. Best idea ever. Ok, not everything went according to plan, but we had a good laugh that’s for sure. The trip was the start off a delightful evening which ended, for some of us, at 6am 😉
The next day we took a walk in the enchanted forest of Malmedy. The city was covered with a blanket of pure white snow, dazzling! When the evening fell, we enjoyed a winter BBQ. Thanks to our master chef’s Filip and Nicolas. While the BBQ was under a meter of snow, they never gave up. Good job boys! Our last evening was filled with board games, music, wine, beer, and a super atmosphere. Unfortunately, Sunday came faster than we had hoped.
With a heavy heart (and totally frozen), we said goodbye to Malmedy. Frozen, but happy we returned to AMS! MIM Thanks for the awesome weekend. Let’s do it again … in the Bahamas 🙂
