On wednesday the 20th of january we had our second career fair. With this article I want to share my experience with the student council and what I did that day. You all know the student council, they always organise our AMS events and I wanted to help them. So when Karlijn and Martine (our class reps) asked me to be a buddy at the career fair, I didn’t hesitate and went for it. I was the buddy for Cummins. Our job as a buddy? Provide the company with information, give them drinks, give them the most pleasant career fair as possible, with other words: represent AMS in the best possible way.

Being a buddy, I had to be present at the career fair at 9 o’clock. As you can see in the picture below, coffee was needed and everybody was working hard to be ready for the career fair (I assume the phones were needed for something important). We had to organise all the stands, making sure everybody got there on time, welcome the companies, help them to build their stand etc.

After everything was set and all the companies arrived, it was time for the company presentations. I got to follow the presentations together with Diede and Laura, two of my classmates. Of course this picture was taken inbetween presentations. There were some very interesting presentations given. All went according to plan as there was a tight schedule of 15 minutes per presentation. My job was to signal the companies if their presentation was too long. But luckely I didn’t have to do that!

Networking time! Safe to say, this is the most fun part of the career fair for me. Not only for the gadgets you get afterwards but talking with all the companies, and asking them questions is the most fun part on a career fair for me. Together with Karlijn, we went to most of the companies present and more important, had some good talks with the representatives of the companies. Of course I didn’t forgot to be a good buddy and asked Cummins once and a while if I could help them with something. After all the networking was done, there was an informal drink organised by the student council. No wine this time but maybe that’s a good thing. We had to behave ourselves in front of all the companies.

After finishing our drinks and when most of the people had left, we had to reorganize the foyer. This was quite the job. But once again the student council (accompanied by myself) did an excellent job and didn’t leave before our foyer had been turned into his original state. This last picture was taken a little while after all the work was finished. If someone could photoshop me in this picture, that would be great. I think we had a little sugar rush from al the food and drinks we had afterwards.

Crazy ending of a great day

To finish, thank you to AMS for organising another career fair, to the student council for helping, and of course a big thank you to all the companies for being present. I hope all you guys get the job you want, good luck! Hopefully see you next year!
